The Thought Process Behind High Stakes Poker Decisions

Updated: Mar 19

Normally when a student wants to talk about a high stakes poker hand and apply it to their game, I'm immediately skeptical. After all, many of the players on high stakes live streams are deliberately playing a high-action style to help boost ratings and to retain their seat for future games, and this style is rarely transferrable to the student's actual game environment. These high stakes games tend to be filled more with entertainers and big personalities than the true poker sharks. There is also a ton of staking of these players to the point where it is hard to know how much of their own money they are even playing with.

Exceptional Alan Keating vs. Peter High Stakes Poker Hand Takeaways

With that said, once in a while, a high stakes hand does occur which exemplifies the highest level of poker. In a recent hand on PokerGo, Alan Keating and Peter (two of the biggest live stream winners) battle for a nearly $1 million pot in a hand that is both highly entertaining and educational. On the surface, this hand may look like it was just two big poker names splashing tons of money around, but there is actual instructional value to it that can help you improve your preflop and hand reading skills and boost your win rate.
